Free Online Image Converter

Convert images between PNG, JPG, and WebP entirely in your browser — no file is ever uploaded to a server. Select your image, choose the output format, optionally adjust quality or resize dimensions, and download the converted file in seconds. Supports the three most common web image formats with canvas-based conversion.

Most current tools process data directly in your browser. If a tool requires external processing, it will say so clearly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What image formats does this tool support?

Input and output both support PNG, JPG (JPEG), and WebP. These three formats cover most web and photography use cases. SVG, GIF animation, AVIF, and PDF are not supported in this version — for those formats, a dedicated image editor is more appropriate.

Does converting a JPG to PNG make it higher quality?

No. Converting a compressed JPG to PNG does not restore any detail that was lost when the JPG was originally saved. PNG is lossless, so re-saving as PNG simply preserves whatever quality the JPG currently has without additional loss. The file size will typically increase because PNG is uncompressed. Use the PNG output format when you need transparency or when you plan to edit and re-save the image multiple times without further quality loss.

What does the quality slider control?

The quality slider only affects lossy output formats — JPG and WebP. At 100 percent, minimum compression is applied and visual quality is highest. At lower values, more compression is applied, which reduces file size but may introduce visible artifacts. PNG output is always lossless and ignores the quality setting. A value between 75 and 90 percent is typically a good balance for photos intended for the web.

Why does JPG not support transparency?

The JPEG format was designed for photographic images and uses lossy compression that does not include an alpha (transparency) channel. When you convert a PNG with a transparent background to JPG, this tool fills the transparent areas with white before exporting — you will see a white background instead of transparency. If you need transparency in the output, use PNG or WebP instead.

What is WebP and when should I use it?

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that supports both lossy and lossless compression as well as transparency. At equivalent visual quality, WebP files are often noticeably smaller than JPG or PNG. It is supported by all major modern browsers. Use WebP when you want smaller file sizes for faster page loads, and you know your target audience uses modern browsers. For maximum compatibility with older software or systems, PNG and JPG remain safer choices.

Are there limits on image size?

There is no hard file size limit enforced by this tool — conversion happens in your browser's memory using the HTML Canvas API. Very large images (for example, high-resolution photos above 20 megapixels) may use significant browser memory and could be slow or fail on lower-powered devices. If you encounter issues with a large image, try enabling resize to reduce the output dimensions before converting, which significantly reduces memory usage.
